WEEKEND ESCAPE TO TAIPEI

I was able to take some time off and fly to Taipei to spend my birthday weekend. My first time, and I was able to meet up with my college friend Cheng who I haven't seen in ages. It was a short but meaningful trip.

THE WAY TO WHANG OD

The hidden village where the 97 year old legend lives was shrouded in mist. People were patiently waiting for their turns to get inked my the master. She was full of grace, but you know how serious she was with her art once she started her "pagbabatok" using thorns, charcoal and a bamboo stick. This was the legend at work.

A FOURTEEN HOUR TRIP TO BUSCALAN

14 hours to reach Buscalan in Kalinga. And for 48 hours, we were out of reach because there was no telecom signal whatsoever. But the reaction of the kids more than made up for any inconvenience that we experienced.

IN THE MOOD FOR BANGKOK

The traffic can be unbearable, the food is an acquired taste, the market can be a tourist trap, and the people - "same,same but different" as the slogan shirts say. There is something about the city that I can't pinpoint but the concoction of all the elements is a love potion that keeps you coming back for more.
